SUMMARY:Artful Mending T-shirt Embroidery and Appliqué Workshop with Je
 nnifer A. Reis in the SCPL Makery at Chilhowie Public Library
DESCRIPTION:Give your t-shirts and knit clothing some love and a new lif
 e with “artful mending”! Participants will learn to use appliqué an
 d embroidery to repair and refresh personal articles of clothing. All su
 pplies including upcycled knit fabric to repair will be provided\; parti
 cipants will need to bring an item (or more) they would like to add appl
 ique and embroidery. Age 16 and up\; ability to thread a needle is requi
 red. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. The cost is $10 
 per person to attend. Call 276-646-3404 to register.\n\n\n\nThis project
  was supported\, in part\, by the Virginia Commission for the Arts\, whi
 ch receives support from the Virginia General Assembly and the National 
 Endowment for the Arts\, a federal agency.\n\n\n\nJennifer A. Reis is a 
 textile artist who creates intensively hand-worked\, ornately beaded\, a
 nd embellished paper doll icons on cloth using traditional and alternati
 ve materials. She has a production textile line of Indigo Shibori art to
  wear and homegoods. Her artistic practice has been honored with numerou
 s awards and prizes\, including Kentucky’s Al Smith Fellowship\, natio
 nal adjudicated and invitational exhibitions\, and teaching opportunitie
 s at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts\, John C. Campbell Folk School\
 , Craft Alliance Center of Art + Design\, Cleveland Institute of Art\, S
 ociety of Contemporary Craft\, and the Southwest School of Art. Her teac
 hing style focuses on collaborative creative making in a low competitive
  environment and former workshop participants describe her instructional
  approach as empathic\, kind\, supportive\, and individualistic. A gradu
 ate of Columbus College of Art and Design\, Syracuse University\, and Mo
 rehead State University\, she has multiple degrees in studio art\, arts 
 management\, and art education. Currently she is a professor at UNC-Gree
 nsboro and resides in Martinsville\, Virginia with her husband and an un
