SUMMARY:Beginners Sewing Workshops in the SCPL Makery
DESCRIPTION:Starting in June\, we are excited to offer Beginning Sewing 
 Workshops with Joshua Blane in the SCPL Makery! Our first workshop will 
 be held on Saturday\, June 13th at 11:00am. The cost to attend is $10 pe
 r person and registration is required. These workshops are open to adult
 s as well as youth 12 and older. Call the library at 276-646-3404 to res
 erve a spot.\n\nDuring this workshop\, participants will cover the follo
 wing topics:\n● Identify the major parts of a sewing machine\n● Thre
 ad a sewing machine and wind a bobbin\n● Understand how stitches are f
 ormed\n● Distinguish between knit and woven fabrics\n● Identify comm
 on beginner fabrics and their uses\n● Read the basic information on a 
 sewing pattern\n● Sew straight lines and basic seams\n● Demonstrate 
 safe sewing practices\n\nJoshua Blane graduated from the Fashion Institu
 te of Design &amp\; Merchandising in Los Angeles\, California with a deg
 ree in Apparel Design &amp\; Textile Science in. He has a combined 10 ye
 ars of design experience\, ranging from bespoke wedding gowns to costume
 s for the stage. Post-pandemic he moved back to his birthplace of SWVA t
 o work as a curator at the William King Museum of Art\, specializing in 
 collection management that includes many historical Appalachian textiles
  such as quilts\, samplers\, and clothing. Most importantly- Joshua beli
 eves that sewing\, mending\, and needlecraft are enduring skills that sh
 ould be maintained and passed down from generation to generation.
