SUMMARY:Freezer Paper Folk Appliqué Workshop with Jennifer A. Reis in t
 he SCPL Makery at Chilhowie Public Library
DESCRIPTION:Learn to use freezer paper to make appliqué designs in this
  hand-stitching workshop! Participants will use provided images or make 
 their own\, transfer drawings to freezer paper\, iron the paper unto fab
 ric\, and utilize the process to make an appliqued and quilted small tex
 tile artwork. All supplies included. Age 16 and up\; ability to thread a
  needle is required. Pre-registration is required and space is limited.

 \n\nThis project was supported\, in part\, by the Virginia Commission fo
 r the Arts\, which receives support from the Virginia General Assembly a
 nd the National Endowment for the Arts\, a federal agency.\n\n\n\nJennif
 er A. Reis is a textile artist who creates intensively hand-worked\, orn
 ately beaded\, and embellished paper doll icons on cloth using tradition
 al and alternative materials. She has a production textile line of Indig
 o Shibori art to wear and homegoods. Her artistic practice has been hono
 red with numerous awards and prizes\, including Kentucky’s Al Smith Fe
 llowship\, national adjudicated and invitational exhibitions\, and teach
 ing opportunities at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts\, John C. Campb
 ell Folk School\, Craft Alliance Center of Art + Design\, Cleveland Inst
 itute of Art\, Society of Contemporary Craft\, and the Southwest School 
 of Art. Her teaching style focuses on collaborative creative making in a
  low competitive environment and former workshop participants describe h
 er instructional approach as empathic\, kind\, supportive\, and individu
 alistic. A graduate of Columbus College of Art and Design\, Syracuse Uni
 versity\, and Morehead State University\, she has multiple degrees in st
 udio art\, arts management\, and art education. Currently she is a profe
 ssor at UNC-Greensboro and resides in Martinsville\, Virginia with her h
