SUMMARY:Indigo Shibori Natural Dyeing Workshop with Jennifer A. Reis in 
 the SCPL Makery at Chilhowie Public Library
DESCRIPTION:Experience the magic of natural dyeing with indigo! Particip
 ants will learn how to prepare the dye vat\; techniques of binding\, sti
 tching\, clamping\, and other pattern-making options\; the dye process i
 tself\; and final preparation of finished products. Everyone will get fo
 ur napkins and two tea towel to dye - additional napkins and tea towels 
 will be available for purchase and participants are welcome to bring per
 sonal\, white/cream\, fabric items of cotton or silk to dye as well. For
  ages 16 and up. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. The
  cost is $20 per person to attend. Call 276-646-3404 to register.\n\n\n\
 nThis project was supported\, in part\, by the Virginia Commission for t
 he Arts\, which receives support from the Virginia General Assembly and 
 the National Endowment for the Arts\, a federal agency.\n\n\n\nJennifer 
 A. Reis is a textile artist who creates intensively hand-worked\, ornate
 ly beaded\, and embellished paper doll icons on cloth using traditional 
 and alternative materials. She has a production textile line of Indigo S
 hibori art to wear and homegoods. Her artistic practice has been honored
  with numerous awards and prizes\, including Kentucky’s Al Smith Fello
 wship\, national adjudicated and invitational exhibitions\, and teaching
  opportunities at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts\, John C. Campbell
  Folk School\, Craft Alliance Center of Art + Design\, Cleveland Institu
 te of Art\, Society of Contemporary Craft\, and the Southwest School of 
 Art. Her teaching style focuses on collaborative creative making in a lo
 w competitive environment and former workshop participants describe her 
 instructional approach as empathic\, kind\, supportive\, and individuali
 stic. A graduate of Columbus College of Art and Design\, Syracuse Univer
 sity\, and Morehead State University\, she has multiple degrees in studi
 o art\, arts management\, and art education. Currently she is a professo
 r at UNC-Greensboro and resides in Martinsville\, Virginia with her husb
