Color photograph of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, located about two and one-half miles east of Rural Retreat, Virginia, where Captain Thomas Copenhaver worshipped and is very likely buried, though his grave can no longer be located. This church is the oldest known Lutheran church is the area, having been established in 1776. The present building, shown in the picture, was built in 1916. Photo taken April 1971.
