Job Opening: Saltville Branch Manager
The Smyth County Public Library is seeking a dynamic, community-focused Branch Manager to lead the Saltville Branch Library. This full-time position is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about public service, community engagement, and lifelong learning.
As Branch Manager, you’ll oversee the day-to-day operations of the Saltville Branch, develop and lead engaging programs for all ages, curate the branch’s collection, and supervise staff. You’ll also serve as a key liaison between the library and the Town of Saltville, local businesses, and community organizations. Whether it’s through outreach events, everyday interactions, or social media, you’ll help shape the library’s presence in the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily operations of the Saltville Branch Library
- Plan and present programs for children and adults
- Select and maintain library materials and resources
- Supervise and support branch staff
- Build and maintain strong relationships with town officials, community groups, and local businesses
- Promote the library through outreach and social media
Required Qualifications
- At least 2 years of public library experience
- Minimum of 2 years in a customer service role
- Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience developing and delivering public programs
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with rural communities
- Master’s Degree or coursework toward an MLIS from an ALA-accredited program
- Supervisory experience
- Experience working with children and teens
- Background in budget management and statistical reporting
This is a full-time 40-hour-per-week position with full benefits including enrollment in the Virginia Retirement System, health insurance for the employee, and paid sick and vacation time. The salary range for the position is $37,000 to $40,000 depending on experience. A background check will be required before a formal offer is made.
