Join us at the library on Wednesday, July 8th at 6pm for an evening of Mancala. Mancala is a classic “count and capture” game with roots dating back thousands of years—with archaeological evidence suggesting early versions existed in ancient Egypt and Jordan as far back as 6000 B.C.E. Mancala is a game of strategy is easy to learn but challenging to master. You need not know how to play, we’re happy teach you! Ages 18+. Participation limited to 16. Martha Hull Copenhaver Lecture featuring author John Copenhaver

Join us Saturday, July 25th at 4pm for the first speaker of the yearly Martha Hull Copenhaver Lecture Series –John Copenhaver, an award-winning author whose latest novel, Hall of Mirrors, was selected as a New York Times Crime Novel of the Year and recently won the Left Coast Crime Award for Best Historical Mystery. Originally from Marion, Virginia, Copenhaver’s work is deeply informed by place, history, and the social pressures that shape identity and moral choice. He is a six-time recipient of Artist Fellowships from the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities.
