Friends of the Library

Like most public libraries in the United States, SCPL is fortunate to have Friends of the Library groups to support our work.  In the case of Smyth County, there are three groups:  Marion Friends of the Smyth County Public Library, Friends of the Chilhowie Library, and Friends of the Saltville Library.  All of the groups are registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations independent of the library although we work together closely.  

Our Friends groups provide invaluable support for SCPL by funding the purchase of books that are distributed free of charge to children several times each year, usually Easter, Halloween, and Christmas.  They also provide funding for programs, support special events, volunteer at our summer reading programs, and support the library staff.  The Friends groups conduct book sales of donated books to generate the funds they use to support SCPL activities as well as other special fund-raising efforts.  

The Friends groups would welcome your support by joining one of the groups, attending meetings, volunteering to support their activities, and donating books to their book sales.  For more information about each group, please see the links below.
