Title:  Adult Programming Librarian

Location:  Main Library, Marion, Virginia

Supervisor:  Public Services Supervisor

Hours:  29 hours per week, including evenings and weekends as required by programs

Compensation:  $15.25 per hour

Date:  June 2024

Job Summary:  Plans and implements a broad range of programs for adult library patrons.  Creates partnerships with community organizations.  Solicits input and feedback from community members.  Markets library programs to the community.  Reports to the Public Services Supervisor.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans and executes programs, presentations, workshops, and participatory experiences for adult patrons. Maintains a diverse range of ongoing programs while also introducing new programs and special events that respond to patron and community interests.
    • Creates and distributes marketing and promotional materials to traditional and new media outlets, electronic bulletin boards, and online events calendars.
    • Tracks program attendance, evaluates program outcomes, and prepares reports.
    • Maintains adult program budget, keeps a record of expenditures, contracts, and payments.
    • Establishes and maintains book clubs responsive to patron interests.
    • Presents programs to familiarize patrons with library services and resources.   
    • Creates partnerships with community organizations and state and local government entities in support of library programs.
    • Collaborates with library colleagues to generate ideas, exchange information, and coordinate program offerings. 

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Bachelor’s degree preferred, some college required.  Transcript required.
      • Familiarity with public library operations. 
      • Avid reader familiar with a broad range of genres and styles.
      • Proven ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form with patrons and staff and have excellent public speaking abilities.
      •  Proven ability to engage patrons and staff in the promotion of library programs and services including use of social media, graphic design, and basic marketing principles.
      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and standard business equipment – printer, scanner, copier. 
      • Excellent digital literacy skills and ability to teach patrons to use a variety of devices and applications.
      • Spanish language fluency a plus.
