E-books & E-audiobooks
SCPL offers several options for patrons with a SCPL card to access e-books, magazines, e-audiobooks, and other digital materials. Our primary providers are Libby (Overdrive) and Hoopla.
Libby by Overdrive
Libby is a free app where patrons can borrow eBooks, digital audiobooks, and magazines. Once you have attached your library card to your Libby account, you can stream titles with Wi-Fi or mobile data, or download them for offline use and read anytime, anywhere. Overdrive offers access to over 32,000 titles from categories like mystery, historical fiction, children’s books, and much more.
SCPL is a member of the Southwest Virginia Consortium that shares a collection across more than a dozen library systems. Each member purchases titles for the shared collection.
Within Libby, patrons are allowed 6 checkouts, and 6 holds at one time . Checkout times are from 14-21 days. Patrons can also make a wish list of up to 5000 items.
Libby is available for Apple, Android, Windows, Mac computer or Chromebook.
Hoopla
Hoopla is another provider of audiobooks, eBooks, comics, movies, music, and television shows to SCPL patrons without holds or waiting. Just download the free Hoopla app and once you’ve set up an account, you may download or stream a wide variety of media formats. Over 500,000 items are available. Patrons can browse by desired format or search by title. When you find one you like, click on borrow title and it will appear in your My Titles Menu and is instantly ready to play. When your loan period ends, the item will be returned automatically.
SCPL patrons are allowed 4 checkouts per month per library card.

What’s a Binge Pass you ask? Hoopla offers special collections of Hoopla Magazines, Curiosity Stream Videos or Great Courses Video Library with unlimited access to these specific collections for 7 days using only 1 checkout (per collection).
Hoopla is available for Android, Apple, Chromebook and E-book readers.
Biblioboard Library
Readers can discover local content from self-published Virginia authors, top indie eBooks, and so much more, and never experience a hold or checkout limit. Access eBooks either on the BiblioBoard Library app for your Apple, Android or Kindle device now, or at lva.biblioboard.com on any web browser.
