NOT a Book Club: Florence Foster Jenkins, “world’s worst opera singer”
Join us on December 18th at 6pm for the December meeting of NOT a BOOK CLUB, where we pair books with movies or recordings that correspond to the book. Don’t have time to read the book in advance? Maybe the screening will inspire you to go back and read the book. In December, read Florence! Foster!! Jenkins!!! by Darryl W. Bullock (2016, eBook available on free Hoopla)
or the BOOK: Florence Foster Jenkins by Nicholas Martin (2016, eBook & audiobook available on Hoopla). Then join us on DECEMBER 18th @ 6pm to watch “The Florence Foster Jenkins Story” documentary* directed by Ralf Pleger (2022). Florence Foster Jenkins was an American socialite and amateur soprano known for her lack of singing talent, which contrasted with her unwavering belief in her own abilities and her flamboyant performances. She was also a philanthropist who supported the arts and achieved a sold-out concert at Carnegie Hall in 1944 shortly before her death
