ZINE NIGHT (Ages 18+)
What is a zine, you ask? Zines (short for fanzines) are noncommercial, DIY, self-published booklets created for passion rather than profit. Ranging from political to artistic, they feature personal narratives, subculture topics, or niche interests, often photocopied and distributed in small batches. They offer total creative freedom through collage, text, and art.
On Monday, April 20th from 6 to 8pm, Zine Night Workshop participants will work alone or collaboratively on zines, comics, artist books, poetry chapbooks, or themed booklets. The library provides staplers, trimmers, basic drawing supplies, paper, adhesives, scissors, discarded book scraps, magazines (sourced from expired circulation copies) and free photocopying of collage elements as well as a copy or two of the finished zine.
What do YOU feel passionate about?
Create a zine to tell the world about it.
Space is limited to 16 people. The workshop will take place in the reference area, downstairs in the Marion Public Library. Examples and guidance will be available. If you can’t finish Monday, we’ll offer hours on Tuesday, April 21st (6-8pm) to allow a bit more time. (Tuesday hours are available only to Monday participants.)
Ages 18+. FREE. You must pre-register by emailing rachelg@scplva.net. Your registration is not confirmed until you receive an affirmative reply from Rachel Gibson, the Adult Programming Librarian.
